Jerry & Jackie Henderson
Our story has become quite varied over the recent past. We both started working in Supply Chain environments for over 25 years, working for what we called “Corporate America” (which is to say American International companies). Jerry worked for nearly 15 years with Apple in Ireland while Jackie worked for over 17 years with EMC (Dell Technologies).
During this time we were both enthusiastic amateur cooks, taking a great interest in providing varied, but always tasty food. Jerry always says that the secret to a good plate of food is a good sauce. These ideas hold true today just like all those years ago. We also very much enjoyed boating having taken boating holidays every year in Ireland, France and England for over 15 years. So, we took the brave (crazy?) decision to sell our house in Ireland and buy a hotel boat in England. We ran The Billet hotel boat for 5 years and have many special memories of our experience and especially our fabulous guests.
We cruised the Grand Union canal from Napton Junction to London, The Thames from Brentford, London to Oxford and the Kennet and Avon canal from Reading to Bath. During all of this cruising we looked after our guests while they enjoyed our fully inclusive 5 star experience. This really set us up for hosting at our Chambres d'hôtes. We always joke that it is a similar activity to the hotel boat the only difference being that the house in France doesn’t move (we hope!).
Why France? Jerry’s parents bought the house in 1994 and moved here permanently in 1997, so we have holidayed here in Beynat many times over the years with family and friends. The beautiful house is perfectly set up for our Chambres d'hôtes as we have guest space including 4 bedrooms at the front in the “old” part of the house while we live in the renovated barn at the back.
